Shannon Hilaire, Communications Director – Nebraska for the American Heart Association, led a discussion of social media video and the use of Animoto during the January edition of Social Media Saturday. Video continues to grow in importance, with 89 percent of people watching video a few times per week and 63 percent watching daily. The changes to the Facebook news feed algorithm only reinforce this importance as Facebook will continue to share embedded videos widely. According to Hilarie, successful videos find a unique perspective on the topic, whether that be through humor, being educational or a look behind the scenes of an organization. Hilaire showed the group the basics of Animoto and shared some of the American Heart Association’s most successful videos.
